Communications Director

The primary focus of this role is to provide effective two-way communication from the church to the congregation and wider community.

  • Provide leadership in marketing, communications and public relations strategy and implementation
  • To be responsible for the production of church's communications materials: worship bulletins, The Spire, the church website: rrcb.org, brochures, etc.
  • Recruit and train volunteers to assist in their work

Core Competencies

  • Experience:  The qualified candidate should have strong experience in journalism, public relations or a related communications field.  The individual will also have experience with graphic design, and website maintenance.  The candidate needs strong organizational and interpersonal skills to plan and coordinate the work of volunteers and staff, create production schedules and keep to tight timetables.
  • Leadership Skills:  The successful candidate must be a self-starter able to direct the efforts in communications strategy with little supervision and who is ideally comfortable in a church environment.
  • Computer Skills:  Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat and Dreamweaver, Microsoft Office, Audacity (audio editing), video-editing software, basic computer hardware, software and network troubleshooting skills

Day to Day Activities

  • Marketing/Advertising Coordinator - budgeting and planning of marketing expenditures and overall marketing and visibility within the larger local community
  • Public Relations Practitioner - communicating the vision, mission and identity of the church
  • Web Site Designer/Webmaster
  • Information Technology - act as single point of contact with regard to all technical IT matters
  • Graphic Designer - worship materials and promotional materials
  • Image Guardian - writing, soliciting, editing and producing all aspects of church communication via print, electronic and verbal
  • Plan events and projects - with other staff and volunteers, design and plan seasonal events and projects. Plan theme and message, create schedules, tasks, assignments and budget, solicit volunteers and convene committees and meetings as needed.
