River's Edge Student Ministry

Youth talking

The River’s Edge Student Ministry at River Road Church, Baptist is a nurturing community in which middle and high school students (grades 6-12) can build meaningful relationships, engage in thought provoking worship and Bible study, learn tools for personal spiritual formation and cultivate a lifestyle of service and social awareness through missions.  It is our desire at River Road Church to see students draw near to Jesus Christ and in doing so discover their potential to transform the world.

  • Connect
River Road Church is a place where students can connect, form meaningful relationships and grow in community.  In Sunday school, small groups, worship, on retreats and on summer trips we strive to teach students how to have healthy friendships that will help them to grow in faith and maturity.
  • Learn
There are many forums in which our students learn and grow in their faith.  Sunday school provides foundational Christian education, while small groups address relevant faith topics and allow students to discuss them in depth.  An Inquirers class is offered twice annually for students interested in exploring the basics of the Christian faith.  This class is intended for students who are considering baptism as well as for students who would simply like a “refresher course” on the Christian faith and practice.
  • Worship
Current youth worship is designed to make worship more accessible for students.  Services follow the lectionary and incorporate creative and interactive elements.  At Current, students explore the importance of the Christian calendar, ritual and traditions.  In worship, they encounter God while also learning spiritual practices.
  • Serve
One of the primary goals of the student ministry at River Road Church is to empower students to be socially aware and engaged in missions in the community.  Students are presented with opportunities year-round to learn about social justice issues and to serve in the community.  During the year, students serve dinner at a local homeless shelter and help to host CARITAS at our church.  During the summer, students participate in a week-long mission trip.  Students also attend Passport camp, which combines opportunities for mission projects, worship, and Christian education.
