Weekly Opportunities

The youth of River Road Church, Baptist gather each Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night for regularly scheduled weekly activities.

Sunday Mornings

10:00 Sunday school

Sunday mornings area time of fellowship and Christian education. Before Sunday school begins, students gather in the youth game room to play ping pong, air hockey and pool. Students then divide into middle and high school classes so that they can explore the building blocks of the Christian faith, do hands on, age appropriate activities and have meaningful discussions with their peers. Middle school teachers are: Mark and Paula Miller (fall), Bill and Deb Gray (winter) and Rob and Jody Smart (spring). High school teachers are: Brantley Holmes (fall), Ed Pruden (winter) and William and Eleanor Nurney (spring).

Middle and high school students meet together each Sunday night for Current youth worship, a creative, hands on worship service with music, teaching, Scripture and interactive worship elements. During the spring semester, we are continuing to participate in a church-wide emphasis of spiritual practices. This semester we are beginning to learn about outward and corporate practices. Following Current students will have a snack supper in Fellowship Hall and youth choir rehearsal in the youth rehearsal room. Current is led by George Berry, Melanie Gray, Rachel Hoffman & Tyler Hays. The youth choir is directed by David Gulick.

Wednesday Nights

5:15 p.m. Dinner (church-wide)
6:00 p.m. Small group
7:00 - 7:30 p.m. Group building games

On Wednesday nights students meet for a small group study in the youth lounge. This discussion based group provides a relaxed forum for students to discuss Scripture, current events and what is going on in their lives. This is the perfect place for students to cultivate meaningful relationships with their peers and to explore some practical implications of the Christian faith. Groups are led by Toney Fitzgerald & Rachel Hoffman. The study this semester is entitled Emerge: Developing Youth as Fully Devoted Disciples.

Inquirers Class

Are you curious about what it means to be a Christian? Interested in learning more about the basics of the Christian faith and what it means to be a member of the church? This winter a five week Inquirers class is offered for middle or high school students. The class includes small group discussions about the life of Christ, faith, church membership, baptism, communion and spiritual growth designed to get students thinking about the building blocks of our faith. This class is for students who are considering baptism or who have already been baptized, but would like a “refresher course” in the faith basics. If you are interested in participating in this class please attend the mandatory parent-student meeting on Sunday, January 24 at 12:15 p.m. in the youth area.
